i tell you this guy is awesome! he wins the OLYMPICS GOLD and looks like he just broke up with his girlfriend. no emotion and still looks like a million dollars worth. my mom tells me that he can do films with his glamour, she even compares him to Shahid Kapur (from my mom not even God receives that kinda recognition!).
as an Indian, i am happy. happy that got her first gold medal, happy that others games are getting the coverage they deserve as Indian cricket team is pushed to the back page for a sickening defeat against Sri Lanka!
Promises! Promises!!

i watched this movie called phenomenon yesterday on star movies! it reminded me of myself myself in my initial college days when i was eager to learn and was happy to look at the world around myself in a better light, a new perspective, discovering how much i can really do- the
joy of being recognised by the self as someone else who is brighter, better and smarter than the previous version! you are amused by yourself, as you watch yourself developing, almost too fast, too perfect, too good for the people around you - and then they slow you down. the pessimists of this world, they slow you down- break your esteem to bits and pieces, and suddenly you become dull, more conservative, more aware of what others think of you. other things change too- you become obsessive , over finding back your previous genius, the way you were before you fell down; and then its worse because you remember the feeling of being at the top of the world, but you forgot how you got there.
you seek out help and friendship and you often get it. a message to the pessimists of this world- dont do this to me again; i am back to my little world of discoveries and witty remarks and butterflies and the hot indian summer sun with its haloes and post-shower rainbows. and now you grow aware of another presence beside you, a beauty of self consistency, an inner feeling of awe that greets this presence inside - people mistake it for god, or some other divine creature; or maybe this is what they want to convey through the notion of divinity- but you feel the power of this new emboldened self, you gain confidence........ i'm pretty much sure only 10% of you were with me this whole time- what with cryptic references to myself and some guy in a dumb movie.i tell you what, i give you a list of people whom you have to see or have to feel to enjoy this particular story i am going to narrate.
- Richard P Feynman, the small country boy who rocked the world with his physics and rustic humor - even those pessimists i talked of earlier recognise him. And then he built up his own lore with witty stories and published in two volumes of autobiographical biographies- "surely
youre joking, Mr. Feynman!" and "What do you care what other people think!?". i can say this that these are not real stories at all, but developed from countless number of tellings and retellings until the timing sounds just right! ..... cant help saying that this way it is definitely more enjoyable.
- akshaye khanna's potrayal of an artist in 'dil chahta hai'- when he asks dimple kapadia's character if he could take down her potrait- and gets acceptedfor the first time. he cannot contain his emotions as he sprints out to his house across the road, and brings back his colours and canvas. he plays an artist and looks every bit of it - here was one solid performance that i never ever hope to crumble under analysis.
-the 2007 film 'into the wild', where the protagonist explains to a friend why he wants to go out and live alone in the wild in alaska, this huskiness his voice commands as he says "Alaska!", he says very little by the way of words- but he says a lot more with just the tone of his voice - "Alaska!"
-john travolta in phenomenon (the film in star movies last night!) brought out the joy of being different ! he shows himself to people and initially they are awed by him, but then they are afraid of him and try to bring him down- the bloody jealous pessimists of this world!
i will tell you a story, a story that is and has many of our stories, and yet it is a story like no other perhaps because it has never been told like this!
the hardest part of writing a story however is choosing the name -
eeni meeni meino mo!!
ganesh's the name... NOW you know !
ganesh was this cute little sensitive boy at school who did his homework properly, yet he never recieved the highest marks in his life for anything.
ganesh played football every single day, but he never got selected for the school team.
ganesh had a sensitive heart and was a good listener, but no girl ever talked to a nobody... and thats what he was, a nobody!
he felt like a ghost, gliding through his share of school, games, daily chores at home, friends- urm- acquantances at school who didnt belong to him, neither did he to them. his days passed away like a dream- a dream that had him in it, but he played no part in it! a dream that decided his future, that decided which brand of toothpaste his father brought home for him to brush his teeth, that decided which one of his yellow socks (laundered by his mother) he would be wearing to school that day.
his life was ALIVE in a sort of way.
then up comes the high school dream- well into his sophomore year, he gets driven to do more!! Ganesh wants to let the world know about himself - he changes himself completely. he still remains the same person - owing to his brand of toothpaste and yellowed pair of socks, but his
attitude to life and - FRIENDS (now he knows what they mean!)- changes.
come the public examinations and bid them adieu... Ganesh is a changed man! he walks up to strangers and talks to them now! he presses himself to go further... he has a dream of becoming a stand-up comedian someday!!
A-Stand-Up-Comedian!! The ultimate culmination of the extrovert, that too for an-introvert-turned-extrovert.
his life is still a dream, but a nice dream here he observes things very clearly. a dream with colours and rainbow and happiness. a world that adores him, and cannot get enough of him.he is enthusiastic about the world... all the good he can do to it and the people.
THEN he meets tushar. tushar is an introvert-not-ever-extrovert. he convinces Ganesh that life is worth living only for the self. Ganesh cannot ignore the logic. Ganesh cannot see that tushar is jealous of his jest for life. he just believes in his FRIENDS.his life turns hell.he goes back to his own fuzzy world of silence, lost control and ghostliness.
(..since this is getting too boring- one "rushes" to the ending now.)
but then he reads richard bach's profound book 'the reluctant messiah'- and gains control of his life.
*note that the book is only a medium for the turnback stimulus.what is important here is not the bollywood-drip-fed author's need for "happies endings".what is important is that man deserves the right to be as he is - he is not to be remodelled by what the society thinks is best; because the society is not always right! to hate a man because he is different from the majority is as much a crime as is murder!!
